Barbados: This is who we are

A song of hope and inspiration as the island recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrates its frontline workers and volunteers.

On June 11th 2020, the Government of Barbados unveiled This Is Who We Are, a song celebrating the spirit and determination of the people of Barbados which has been prominently on display throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Many of the island’s top musicians and singers were involved in the creation of this special song including Dr Stedson ‘RPB’ Wiltshire and Edwin Yearwood (the composers), Nicholas Brancker (the arranger) and Alison Hinds, Biggie Irie, Lil’ Rick, Alan Sheppard, Mickey, and many others.

In announcing the release of This Is Who We Are, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley commented "Very early in this pandemic, I asked the officials at the National Cultural Foundation to commission a song that would speak to that phrase: This is who we are. A song that would capture our essence as Bajans; a song that could be shared with anyone, anywhere in the world, and lift up their spirits; a song released at the right time to remind us of our humanity, to remind us that we are resilient. To remind us that together we can overcome and achieve everything and anything"
